Superpowers // 7/13/2021

Today I’m going to be talking about how a computer gives you superpowers and adding something to the formula of how I write these from here forward.

First, regarding the computer

Combining a computer with other skills allows you to be able to achieve a, “superhuman level” of skill and acts as a shortcut for producing content of a high quality standard.

Let me explain

I bought a weighted keyboard and started practicing piano back in Fall of 2018. I haven’t been consistent for 3 years by any means, explained here, but I have put quite a few hours in.

If a classic pianist heard me play they’d give me a 2 or 3 out of 10 in rating my skill.

However, piano isn’t the only thing I’ve been practicing the last few years. I’ve also spent significant amounts of time learning how to use audio production software.

So, when I combine my mediocre piano playing with, (let’s say 5/10 ability in audio production software), than 5 (software) + 2 (piano) = a final product of 7/10 quality.

A prime example of this in action is the final track off my Stream of Conscience album called “walkwme“. In this song I chopped up clips of me riffing on the piano in a certain key. I reversed some of them and edited the piano audio using the computer in whatever way I could think of to make it sound cooler.

The end of the piano portion of the track is a short solo. Near the end of the solo there was a big gap where due to my untrained hands I stopped playing for a moment.

When I was listening back to the solo I wanted to use it & was able to fill in that gap by copying a note and doing whatever I thought of at the time to fill in the space resulting in a enjoyable piano solo albeit a portion of the solo was filled in via audio production.

So, through this example you can see that I am not the best piano player, or the best audio producer, but when I combine the two things together I’m able to elevate the level at which I output content.

Some may call it cheating, my response would be, If that’s the standard you’re going by I should have learned HTML, CSS, and Javascript before creating this website instead of utilizing WordPress.

and the best part about it, we all have access to computers at affordable prices 🙂

Now, onto part two

Starting right now, in every one of these posts I write I’ll be, at the very least, including a Bible verse somewhere within the writing, even if it’s just a verse I enjoy and has no relation to the topic of discussion.

Ideally, I’ll be able to link in the Bible verse with the topic at hand and I intend on writing posts in the future that are entirely a discussion about a Bible passage.

Today’s Bible passage is from the story of Samson. If you aren’t familiar, the story is about a man named Samson who was born with superhuman strength. He did have a weakness though, if his hair was shaved off he would lose his superhuman strength.

Today I wrote about how computers give us all access to superpowers so this story ties in well.

In the story, Samson is seen laying with many different women, eventually he is with a woman named Delilah. Delilah nags him day after day for his weakness.

He lies to her many times but eventually gives in and tells her

Judges 16:17

16. And it came to pass, when she pressed him daily with her words, and urged him, [so] that his soul was vexed unto death;

17. That he told her all his heart, and said unto her, There hath not come a razor upon mine head; for I [have been] a Nazarite unto God from my mother’s womb: if I be shaven, then my strength will go from me, and I shall become weak, and be like any man.

The story of Samson exemplifies to all men that we need to be careful in giving away our secrets and not be pillow-talking with hoes.

*I’ll be taking passages out of the King James version of the Bible unless otherwise noted*
